Promoting Cycling in Canada Bay
BayBUG was formed to promote the use of bicycles for transport and recreation, as a means to improve quality of life and protect our environment.
Regular Weekend Rides (departing from Concord & Concord West) catering for various levels, with a duration of 1-3 hours; longer rides are usually run once a month on the last Sunday of the month.
Adhoc Weekday Rides (in the City of Canada Bay or Sydney Olympic Park) catering for beginner/tentative bike riders.
Our Activities include working with local councils, the RTA and other bodies that provide for cyclists in and around Canada Bay, to improve and create safe cycling routes.
Membership is open to anyone who is interested in furthering the group's objectives.
Where we operate
Our advocacy work is concentrated in the City of Canada Bay council area which spans the suburbs of: Rhodes, Liberty Grove, Concord West, North Strathfield, Concord, Mortlake, Breakfast Point, Cabarita, Canada Bay, Five Dock, Rodd Point, Wareemba, Russell Lea, Abbotsford, Chiswick, Drummoyne.
February 17th 2013 - Ride Leader training day
Sunday February 17th was Ride Leader training day, run by Bike North volunteers under the auspices of Bicycle NSW. The total of 40+ participants comprised of 15 Ride Leader candidates, 20+ volunteers, 4 Master Ride Leader candidates and 6+ course providers from Bike North and Bicycle NSW. Bicycle NSW provided their offices as a venue and kept us well fed with sandwiches, fruit, pastries, drinks etc.
Congratulations to BayBUG's new Ride Leaders Geoff Ashton, Kevin Mason and Mike Botton and Master Ride Leaders David Martin and Rolf Muller. Special thanks go to the following volunteers for giving up their Sunday and giving their best thespian performance to challenge the candidate's knowledge and skills: Colin Whalan, Colleen Hickey, Faye Roberts, James Ashton, John Martin and June Mason.
