Activities

BayBUG was formed on 16th May 2001 and became incorporated during September 2004. We are affiliated with Bicycle New South Wales and work with them and other Bicycle User Groups (BUGs) to improve cycling conditions in Sydney.

With constant advocacy of residents and peak groups like Bicycle NSW, it is possible to make positive influences such as bike lanes on roads and bike racks at shopping centres.

What can you do to help?

Just riding your bike for a start
Governments respond very much by demand so the more people are out there pedalling, the easier it is to make the roads safer.
Give BayBUG a hand!
BayBUG have formed a number of Interest Groups for advocacy work and general club administration. We encourage Membership for those who would like to offer help or make constructive suggestions. There are lots of little jobs that need to be done. An hour spent handing out pamphlets at a stand or assisting on a ride can make the job of running an event a lot easier.
Report traffic and bikeway incidents
Don't let bullying or incompetent drivers get away with their bad behaviour. Its better that they receive an attitude adjustment before they kill or maim someone. Please refer to MASSBUG's home page and scroll down to the paragraph on DRIVER REPORTING.

Its worthwhile saving the following numbers in your mobile phone:

  • Burwood Police Station: 24 Burleigh St Burwood 2134 Ph (02) 9745 8499
  • Five Dock: 14 Garfield St 2046 Fivedock Ph (02) 8753 3599
  • Crime Stoppers: Ph 1800 333 000
  • Police assistance line: Minor traffic incidents Ph 131 444
Send in an article or letter to the Media
They particularly like personal interest stories such as "Jill Bloggs rides her bike around the world to raise money for orphans!". Good press helps to raise a positive perception for cycling in the community.
Call or write to your Government Representative
Let them know we exist! There is on average 1 bike per household in Sydney, yet proportionally, funding for bike facilities is far lower compared to cars. In order to make your submission count, it is best to approach your local member by focusing on a particular issue and propose a solution.
